How To Select A Safe Family Car

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on Jan 13th, 2012

Your family’s safety is the most important thing in your life, which means that finding a vehicle that ensures your family’s safety is among your top priorities. There are a few things you should remember to get you through what could seem like an overwhelming process. The most telling observation would be the crash safety test performed on a vehicle. Each year the National Highway Transportation Safety Association conducts a series of test to assess a vehicle’s ability to withstand a collision. Naturally, the larger the vehicle and the better the handling, the safer the vehicle. Another thing to consider are air bags. Air bags are an important safety feature for adults, however they can be extremely dangerous for children. Many later model vehicles are equipped with a safety feature that detects the presence of a child and acts accordingly, while other vehicles have a manual on/off switch to enable or disable the airbag. Also be sure that the rear seat side impact air bags (if equipped) meet safety standards for children. Anti-lock brakes are an important safety feature to ensure you maintain control when driving in less that desirable conditions. Most newer model cars come standard with this feature, but you should always check to make sure. When you have considered all these things and narrowed down your search, check the government recall list and make sure that the vehicle(s) your are interested in are not on that list. Visit your local dealer if you have any questions concerning what the safety features are, location, or how they work. A good dealership will have any such information on hand to guide you through your elimination process. An informed decision is the best decision. Remember, the most important tool you have when choosing a safe vehicle is YOU!
